About this Position / Responsibilities

NFF is seeking an Application Systems Architect with hands-on experience designing, configuring, and supporting PTC Windchill Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) within a complex enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong application architecture skills, experience with Windchill workflows and lifecycle configuration, and a deep understanding of engineering change management, configuration management, and engineering data structures. This role will partner closely with Engineering, Maintenance, information technology (IT), and Configuration Management teams to ensure that the Windchill platform aligns with the Enterprise Architecture Framework, adheres to theSoftware Development Lifecycle (SDLC) standards, and integrates effectively with related enterprise systems including Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Enterprise Response Planning (ERP), identity management, and reporting platforms. Designing and documenting Windchill architecture, object models, integrations, and lifecycle/workflow configurations.


• Performing gap analyses and defining solution approaches for new Windchill capabilities or enhancements.
• Supporting engineering change management (CR/CN) processes and configuration management (CM) workflows.
• Leading the architectural planning of Windchill upgrades, module deployments, and integrations withCAD, ERP, and identity management systems.
 • Creating architecture artifacts such as interface specifications, system connectivity diagrams, and PLM data models.
• Reviewing technical designs, verifying architectural compliance, and coordinating development activities.
• Providing technical leadership to analysts, developers, and integration staff supporting Windchill.
• Supporting troubleshooting efforts requiring architecture-level analysis (object structure issues, workflow errors, integration failures, etc.). Architecting Windchill modules, object types, lifecycles, workflows, and system integrations.
• Documenting Windchill PLM architecture, including WTPart structures, EPMDocument relationships, Change Objects, and CAD/ERP integration flows.
• Designing migration, staging, and upgrading paths for Windchill deployments.
• Ensuring alignment of Windchill data models and workflows with engineering change management and configuration management requirements.
• Coordinating with CAD, ERP, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure integrated, enterprise-wide system behavior.
• Apply concepts of application architecture and service orientation to assist customer teams responsible for developing application requirements in specific functional areas.
Coordinate work to prevent overlapping and ensure alignment with the Enterprise Architecture (EA) Framework, IT strategy, SDLC, strategic drivers, and standards.
• Apply gap analysis techniques to define the nature and extent of application scope changes and communicate business cases to decision makers.
• Prepare as-is and to-be application architecture artifacts, including system connect diagrams, application reference models, software requirements documents, interface descriptions, data dictionaries, and application staging plans.
• Work with data and infrastructure architects and software program managers to ensure integrity of application systems and plans with overall Enterprise Architecture (EA).
• Provide input into the deliverables of the business analysts and documentation specialists.

Qualifications

• Experience designing workflows, lifecycles, object models, and integrations within Windchill.
• Experience with engineering change management and configuration management processes. Experience architecting or supporting Windchill PLM in an enterprise environment.
• Experience documenting PLM data flows, integration points, and solution architectures.
• Exceptional application architecture, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), and software development skills.
• Strong analytical, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
• Experience using Microsoft (MS) Visio or other visualization tools to document application architecture.
• Experience using MS Excel to perform basic software requirements documentation.
• Familiarity with MS Word and PowerPoint.
• Experience coordinating software requirements and working with development teams.
• Proven ability to plan and deploy commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and middleware application programs and process improvements.
• Experience managing teams of programmers for the deployment of large government multi agency applications.
• Experience performing the application architecture function from conception to deployment for large enterprise solutions.
• Experience with administration or architecture of technologies such as message-oriented middleware, composite applications, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), Master Data Management (MDB), Enterprise Mashups, or Business Process Management (BPM). Experience using an EA repository such as Telelogic, Metis, or Abacus.

 

Preferred Requirements:
• Experience architecting integrations between Windchill and CAD or ERP systems.
• Experience supporting Windchill upgrades, module deployments, or multi-system environments.
• Formal training in organizational development, systems analysis, group facilitation, or requirements analysis.
• Experience in the transit industry.
• Experience integrating four (4) or more legacy applications across J2EE, .NET, or mainframe environments.
• At least three (3) years managing applications for middleware platforms (Oracle Fusion, Azure, WebSphere, SeeBeyond, BizTalk).
• Experience planning identity management integrations in enterprise architectures.
• Experience deploying BPM or workflow engine solutions in large-scale enterprise environments.
