About this Position / Responsibilities

The role will require you to manage, configure, and maintain DB2 databases running on mainframe platforms. Perform database installation, upgrades, patches, migrations, and version management. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and tune DB2 components to ensure high availability. Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to meet project continuity requirements.

 

Skills:

  • 15+ years of strong hands‑on experience with IBM DB2 (LUW or z/OS depending on environment).
  • Expertise in database design, data modeling, schema management, and SQL optimization.
  • Knowledge of high‑availability technologies (HADR, replication ,failover, clustering).
  • Experience supporting complex, transactional, high‑volume systems.
  • Familiarity with ETL processes, Data Mining, Data Storage, Data warehousing
  • Knowledge of IBM batch jobs, and integration with enterprise applications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and performance tuning skills.

 Responsibilities:

The Senior DB2 database administrator position requires in-depth knowledge of IBMDB2 database background using with IBM Utilities and BMC tools.

  • Support the application team by optimizing database queries, stored procedures, packages, and triggers.
  • Work closely with developers to integrate enhancements, fixes, and new functionalities aligned with business needs.
  • Ensure application releases and data model changes are synchronized with database environments.
  • Maintain data integrity through robust data validation, referential integrity, and error-handling practices.
  • Enforce database security standards, user access controls, and audit requirements consistent with other divisions.
  • Support compliance with privacy and data protection rules applicable to division‑related personal information.
  • Use DB2 monitoring tools to proactively identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Analyze SQL performance, query execution plans, and recommend optimizations.
  • Tune databases, memory pools, indexes, and storage structures for improved system throughput.
  • Support ongoing fixes, enhancements, and modernization efforts related to the system.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams on server performance, storage, and network connectivity affecting DB2.
  • Implement schema modifications, table restructuring, indexing strategies, and partitioning as required.
  • Provides technical knowledge and support to agencies, personnel, and additional stakeholders
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • May coordinate activities of application developers.
  • Able to identify best practices and standards for the use of the product
  • Delivers support and design for industry specific applications that require integration with statewide systems or applications
  • Interacts with executive level business users or technical experts
  • May function as a niche technical SME (Subject Matter Expert)

 

 

Qualifications

  • 16 Yrs. database design, documentation, and coding                                                                                                  
  • 16 Yrs. SQL experience                                                                                                                                                                
  • 16 Yrs. designing and implementing reports and report interfaces                                                                    
  • 16 Yrs. Strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2 (LUW or z/OS depending on environment).              
  • 16 Yrs. knowledge of high availability technologies (HADR, replication, failover, clustering).                     
  • 10 Yrs. Familiarity with ETL processes, Data Mining, Data Storage, Data warehousing                                
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience
