NFF Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer with strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and Microsoft Azure cloud technologies. The ideal candidate will have experience designing, developing, deploying, and supporting scalable, secure, and highly available enterprise applications.

The role involves working on real-time data processing, system integrations, cloud-native applications, and transit-related systems. Basic understanding of OpenTripPlanner (OTP), General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS), and GTFS-Realtime would be a great plus but not required.

Required Technical Skills

1. Java and Backend Development

• 7+ years of professional software development experience, with strong proficiency in Java.
• Extensive experience with Java 11/17/21, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and RESTful API development.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, multithreading, concurrency, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience developing microservices and integrating distributed enterprise applications.
• Experience with JSON, XML, HTTP/HTTPS, WebSockets, and third-party API integrations.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
• Experience troubleshooting application performance, memory utilization, and production issues.

2. Microsoft Azure Cloud Technologies

• Hands-on experience developing, deploying, and supporting applications hosted in Microsoft Azure.
• Experience with Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure Container Apps, and Azure Container Registry.
• Knowledge of Azure networking, including Virtual Networks, private endpoints, DNS, and application connectivity.
• Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Storage, and Azure Key Vault.
• Familiarity with Azure Front Door, API Management, and Microsoft Entra ID authentication.
• Experience with Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Log Analytics for application monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of cloud security, scalability, high availability, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.

3. DevOps and CI/CD

• Experience with Git and GitHub for source code management, branching, pull requests, and release management.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
• Experience with Maven or Gradle for build automation and dependency management.
• Knowledge of Docker and containerized application deployments.
• Experience implementing automated testing, code quality checks, and deployment validation.
• Familiarity with production releases, rollback procedures, and troubleshooting deployment failures.

4. Desired but optional: OpenTripPlanner (OTP) and GTFS – Basic Knowledge

• Basic understanding of OpenTripPlanner (OTP) and its use in multimodal transit journey planning.
• Familiarity with GTFS Static data structures, including routes, trips, stops, stop times, calendars, and schedules.
• Basic understanding of GTFS-Realtime feeds, including Trip Updates, Vehicle Positions, and Service Alerts.
• Understanding of how static schedules and real-time transit data are integrated into journey planning and passenger information systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic GTFS data inconsistencies, feed integration issues, and API responses.
• Willingness to develop deeper knowledge of transit scheduling, prediction systems, and real-time passenger information technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Azure technologies.
• Develop and support RESTful APIs, microservices, and integrations with internal and external systems.
• Build and maintain cloud-native applications with an emphasis on reliability, security, performance, and scalability.
• Support application deployments, production troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management processes.
• Integrate and process real-time data from APIs, messaging systems, and external data feeds.
• Collaborate with business analysts, infrastructure teams, architects, and other developers to deliver technical solutions.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, technical documentation, and development best practices.
• Support transit-related applications, including OTP, GTFS data integration, and passenger information systems.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in software development.
• 5+ years of experience developing in Java (11/17/21).
• 5+ years of experience with Spring Boot and the Spring Framework.
• 5+ years of experience developing RESTful APIs, microservices, and integrating distributed enterprise applications.

• Required: Industry certifications in Azure, Java, or related cloud technologies.

Desired Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience supporting transit, transportation, public sector, or government organizations.
• 2+ years of experience with Azure networking and platform services, including Virtual Networks, private endpoints, DNS, Front Door, API Management, and Entra ID.
• 3+ years of experience with cloud security, high availability, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.
• Basic knowledge of OpenTripPlanner (OTP), GTFS, and GTFS-Realtime.
